Torrie Wilson Interview

Q: What do you consider the high and low points of your career so far?

A: The high point of my wrestling career has been signing with the WWE. It has definitely been a great ride so far. I've been learning how to wrestle and I really feel that I am going to go far in the WWE. I don't what the low point would be, I can't really think of any.

Q: You have worked programmes with three of the biggest names in the business – Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon – what are your thoughts on them?

A: Oh gosh! They are all so high up there. They are all so professional and there is just something about them that is larger than life. It was such an honour to be able to work with all three of them and it has given me something that I will be able to tell my grandchildren about.

Q: What are the main differences between working for WCW and WWE?

A: To me the WWE is far more professional than WCW was, as far as how things are run and the production. They are also much more professional when dealing with the wrestlers and writing staff. They tend to give you a lot more direction and let you know what they want to do with you in the future.

Q: Have you and Billy Kidman made any wedding plans, he is a very lucky man? Are you changing your ring name to Torrie Kidman?

A: Yeah we do have wedding plans, we are getting married in July. It is going to be a quiet gathering. I am not going to change my name, unless he makes me!

Q: The WWE seems to be taking its women's division a lot more seriously these days – do you prefer working T&A type matches or more traditional bouts?

A: I really like having a little bit of both. I think the crowd want to see the more gimmick type matches, especially with the women. It is easier as a woman to do a T&A type match as it is easier to get the crowd interested in it. I have been doing a lot of bra and panties matches on our non-televised house shows in the States. To be honest, what we have been doing is a regular eight minute match but we throw in the bra and panties so that the crowd get what they want too.

Q: I loved your match with Nidia, do you want to wrestle more?

A: Thanks very much. It is definitely something I want to do more of. I have been training four days a week while I am on the road to learn how to wrestle. I have finally taken this step in the last two months and have improved a lot. I know I have a long way to go but I am training a lot with Dave 'Fit' Finlay who is in charge of the women's division.

Q: How did you first get involved in the wrestling industry and what made you decide to stay in the business?

A: I had moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and I had been out there for about six months when I went to a WCW house show. I got backstage and met Kevin Nash, Eric Bischoff and some other people. Kevin Nash was doing the booking for the company at that time and had an idea on how they wanted to bring in David Flair, Ric Flair's son. They asked if I would be interested in doing it and it took off from there. I worked one day a week for WCW for about a year and then finally I signed a contract with them. I have stayed in the business because growing up I did a lot of fitness modelling and sports. I was also in the theatre and wanted to pursue acting. So wrestling kind of melts the two together and I love it. I love being in front of live crowds and I love the people that I work with, it is like a big travelling family.

Q: What are the best and worst things about being a WWE diva?

A: The best things are, first of all, that there aren't many of us, so we see a lot of action. I love the people that I work with and I love travelling and seeing different parts of the world. It is also a great rush to entertain huge crowds. The down side to it is the time spent on the road, you don't get to see your family very much. I am lucky because I travel with my fiancee but I don't get to see my parents very often. I can't imagine having kids.

Q: Who are your best friends behind the scenes?

A: Lisa Marie Varon she has just started as Victoria on Raw is my best friend. We've been friends for about six years, we knew each other way back. And Stacey Keibler is a very good friend mine and so is Dawn Marie. I was very upset when they moved Stacey over to Raw because we came in together and we are such good friends that I can tell her everything. So now I am on Smackdown and my two best friends are on Raw.

Q: Can you describe a typical day in the life of a WWE diva?

A: When we are on the road basically I get up, go work out for a couple of hours, head over to the arena and get in the ring with some of the other girls and train with Fit Finlay for a while. Then get ready for the show, do the show and drive on to the next city. We don't get a lot of time to relax. But I love what I do and to me that is relaxation.

Q: How do you keep in such great shape?

A: That depends who you ask, I don't think I am in very good shape! On the road it is hard to stay in very good shape. Basically I try to work out every day that I can, which ends up being three or four days a week. I try to get up early to workout before my day starts, I don't procrastinate. And I definitely have to watch what I eat.

Q: We have recently got back from watching SummerSlam in New York which was an awesome experience. Did you enjoy the show?

A: I thought it was an amazing show. I was really looking forward to the Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio match. I am a huge fan of cruiserweight style matches and I was really excited to see Kurt working in that style too. I really think that the cruiserweight division will go far in the WWE. Hopefully they will give them the chance to shine a little more. They've got such great untapped talent.

Q: What did you think of fans at SummerSlam booing The Rock?

A: That was crazy. The only thing that I could think of is that they are upset he is leaving us to go and make another movie. Also everyone was saying that the Long Island crowd was a heel crowd. That they tend to back the bad guys so maybe that is it.

Q: What are your thoughts on the UK?

A: I was in Manchester for last year's Rebellion but only for a day. We flew in, did the show and then flew back. So I haven't really got to see that much yet but I am really excited about going shopping here.

Q: What do you think of English men? There have been a lot of American women in the press here saying how awful they are.

A: I know, that is terrible. To be honest I haven't been in the UK long enough to know. The Englishmen I've met in the States have all been very nice. I don't have anything bad to say about them.

Q: Were you a wrestling fan growing up?

A: No. I didn't watch a lot of TV, I had never even heard of wrestling to be honest. I didn't know what it was until I moved to LA and the guy that I was dating at the time introduced me to it, he was really into it and that was when I started watching it.

Q: What is your favourite match that you have been in and what is the best one you have watched?

A: That is a difficult one. Not that it was a terribly good technical wrestling match or anything but the most memorable match for me was the match at Invasion when I first started. I teamed up with Stacey Keibler against Lita and Trish Stratus. Just because I had watched Lita and I really respected her and I was really excited to be working with her and Trish. That was a really cool experience, especially as my first experience in the WWE. I love watching the cruiserweights wrestle. I am not biased or anything but I love watching a bout between Kidman and Rey Mysterio, they have great matches.

Q: If you could manage any wrestler of all time who would you pick?

A: Probably Hulk Hogan. I am sure I could learn a lot from him.

Q: With Tajiri you played a subservient Geisha role for a while. Were you worried about the negative racial stereotyping of the role?

A: Yes I was. I hated that role, especially because it is so against my beliefs. It was very hard for me to do. Plus I love dressing crazy and wearing skimpy outfits.

Q: What do you think were the causes of WCW going under?

A: From my impression of WCW in the short time I was there, I think a lot of people that were working there weren't there because they loved wrestling, especially in the office. That had a lot to do with it. In WWE, you can call the office at eight o'clock at night and people are still there. They all watch the show and they are fans and it shows in the end product.

Q: What has been your worst injury in wrestling and your most embarrassing moment?

A: I really haven't been injured yet, knock on wood. I have had a lot of embarrassing moments, I have done some very stupid things. The one thing I can think of is in WCW I was walking out to the ring with Billy Kidman and on the outside the mats were crumpled up and missing things. I kept looking up to wave to people and I tripped like five times walking around the ring. They must have though I was the biggest dork.

Q: What did you think when Steve Austin walked out on the company?

A: If there is one thing that I've learned in this business it is that everything is possible. It shocked me, of course, but I definitely see him coming back in the future.

Q: Where do you see yourself in ten years time?

A: Hopefully at home with a few kids.
