Lauren was born March 16, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in Fairfax County, in suburban Northern Virginia. The daughter of Larry Graham and Donna Grant, Lauren was raised by her father after her mother left home to pursue a singing career when Lauren was only 5 years old. Lauren attended Barnard College in New York, receiving a bachelors degree. She then went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas Texas, earning a degree of Masters of Fine Art in Acting. Lauren moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue her acting career.
While in Los Angeles, Lauren shared a house with future Spin City actress Connie Britton. Lauren's first break was guest staring on the TV show "3rd Rock from the Sun" in 1996. That episode aired in January of 1996. Many people may remember her playing Richard's overly perky girlfriend on the NBC show "Caroline In the City" during the 1996 season. Still more people remember her roll as the little bit crazy efficiency expert Andrea on "NewsRadio", a role she played in a few episodes in 1997.
Other TV show guest roles followed. She also had a staring role in several short lived TV shows such as Townies (co-staring with Molly Ringwald and Jenna Elfman), Conrad Bloom and MYOB.
Currently Lauren stars in the critically acclaimed TV show "The Gilmore Girls", on the WB Television Network. In August of 2001, Lauren won the award for Best Actress in a TV series given by Family Television Awards. The Family Friendly Programming Forum created the awards to encourage shows that parents can watch with their young children. In the fall of 2001, Lauren Graham was nominated for a Golden Globe Award as Best Actress in a Drama Series. She lost to Jennifer Garner (Alias) on the award show Jan 20, 2002.
