Laetitia Casta Interview - from Fashionclick.com
Her Madrid appearance took place right after the opening of the Spanish movie "Gitano" (Gypsy), where she appears alongside flamenco dancer, Joaquín Cortés. Laetitia was pursued by the press on account of an announcement she had made some days before, declaring she was leaving the world of fashion to center on acting. We took the opportunity to ask her a few questions and here is what she answered: Why have you decided at this moment to leave fashion and center on cinema? It is not such a drastic decision. I have only said that I was going to step down from the catwalks. Yet, you know that fashion is not only about shows and, on the other hand, neither is it the area in which I work the most. For example, in the last few years I have only done two haute-couture shows. I announced my intention after the Cannes Festival and it appeared in French media. Then, a journalist from [French daily] Le Figaro thought she had a scoop and mixed it all up... As for me, I see this simply as a progressive evolution, because one grows and wants to keep on learning. I have never really thought of myself as a model and, nowadays, even if I continue to have film projects, I wouldn't consider myself an actress. What do you expect to find in cinema that you have not found in fashion? I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me! Fashion has given me and continues to give me a lot. Do you think I would have come to the Spanish Cibeles shows if not? I am interested in projects from different fields... if I find them interesting. The fact that they have to do with fashion or movies is not an essential aspect for me. For example, it was while filming the advert for L'Oréal's Elsève Multi-Vitamins where I met [French] director Luc Besson. I am currently focused on preparing my role as the main character in Raoul Ruiz's next movie, "Les Ames Fortes" (Strong Souls) based on a novel by Jean Giono, and I am very happy about it. This is what I, on the other hand, was trying to explain to that journalist, but apparently she got it all wrong. Most of the present L'Oréal ambassadors are movie or television actresses. Has this had anything to do with your decision to enter the movie world? To be honest, no. I believe that all of the L'Oréal ambassadors have their own personality and are women quite different from one another. This is the important thing: that they are models, actresses or anything else. This lets each one of us be really who we are and, maybe, represent in some way all the women out there. What do you plan to focus on, American or European cinema? It depends on the project at hand. I have yet to receive an offer from America that really interests me, but I am not closed to the possibility. I am always open to new adventures and challenges. What aspects of acting - according to your own experience - do you find easier, and which do you find to be the hardest? This question is difficult to answer. In this case, again, mi intention is to continue learning and, thus, not to tend towards easier things. That is what I am interested in. "I am as I am and anyone can think whatever he or she wants of me." Do you believe that all you young models and actresses - surrounded by fame and glamour - are a good example for women your age? I do not seek to be an example for anyone. I only have a secret for happiness: to be myself until the end. This would be my advise to young people. Nowadays, many women, including very young ones, undergo cosmetic surgery seeking to emulate the beauty ideals marked by models and actresses. What is your opinion on this? It all depends on the case. I can understand this in women who have a true need for it in order to feel good about themselves. But I do not believe undergoing cosmetic surgery in the quest for an ideal is a solution at all. What do you want people to think of you whenever they think in: Laetitia the model/actress? Laetitia the person? This question is quite bizarre. I am as I am and anyone can think whatever he or she wants of me. Which is your main defect and which your main virtue? Frankness, in both cases; that's what my friends say. What would you like to tell your fans about your decision of momentarily leaving the catwalks? I would tell them that it is easier to find a seat at a movie theater than at the shows of the great couturiers. (laughs) |
