Exuding an exceptional maturity both on and off the screen, Katie Holmes has emerged as a true rising star
in Hollywood, landing major roles in both film and television. In addition to heading to college this fall as Joey
Potter on Dawson's Creek, Holmes' upcoming projects include the feature films Phone Booth co-starring
Colin Farrell and Abandon, opposite Benjamin Bratt.
She was most recently seen in Sam Raimi's The Gift, opposite Keanu Reeves, Cate Blanchett and Greg Kinnear, and Curtis Hanson's feature film Wonder Boys, with Michael Douglas and Tobey Maguire. Previously, Holmes starred in the small-town sci-fi thriller Disturbing Behavior, for which she won a 1999 MTV Movie Award for Breakthrough Performance, the dark comedy Go and the thriller Teaching Mrs. Tingle. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Holmes began acting in high school theater productions, but didn't believe she had a shot at stardom living in the Midwest. She got her opportunity while attending a national modeling and talentconvention in New York City, where she met a talent manager who encouraged her to come to Los Angeles for television's pilot season. Holmes made her feature film debut in Ang Lee's acclaimed drama The Ice Storm playing the love interest of Tobey Maguire's character. She later landed the series regular role of Joey Potter on Dawson's Creek by sending in a videotape from Toledo during her senior year of high school. Holmes is the new face of Garnier Lumina hair products. Katie Holmes Interesting Facts She is accepted into Columbia University, New York in 1997 but she deferred enrollment. Katie's callback for the part of Joey on Dawson's Creek conflicted with a high school production of Damn Yankees, in which she was a lead character. Rather than let down her classmates, she turned down the callback - much to the distress of her agent, but the audition was rescheduled and, the rest, as they say, is history. Apparently, the producers were very impressed by her loyalty! Was offered the part of Buffy Summers in the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" TV Series. She turned the part down because she wanted to finish high school. Auditioned for the role of Ellie Christianson in the movie Wicked (1998), but Julia Stiles won the part. Turned down the lead role in 40 Days and 40 Nights (2001), due to scheduling conflicts. Katie shares the honour of being "the celebrity hardest to get an autograph" of, together with Britney Spears. |
