Once upon a time, in the far away and long ago age of 1970, a slightly belated Christmas present arrived in the Laurer household. On December 27th of that year little Joanie Laurere was born in Rochester, New York. The family life of this military brat was not a happy one, as her parents divorced when she was very young, creating an unsettled situation. She has often described her childhood as very dysfunctional. Still she considers herself as the girl next door.
As time flew by and Joanie(Chyna) grew up she developed a one would say "unusual body" but she thought it was a gift and it would some day bring her much success. Big surprise that people wouldn't except her and her body, she was often teased and picked on. She was called everything from dyke to lesbion to even a man but she wasn't gonna let that stop her it just made her stronger.
In her High School days Chyna did extremly well, accelerating in eveything that she did. because she did so well in school she went to Spain under a UN scholarship and ended up staying there to finish up high school. After winning the scholarship to the University of Tampa she graduated with a double major in Spanish Literature. During her college years she held many jobs, she did eveything from selling beepers to belly dancing!! But Chyna was yet to see her most important and successful job yet! During her college years Chyna began working out heavily with weights and molding her body. As her body started to developing more and more Chyna knew automatically that she has something special and powerful little did she know that one day it would be her most useful and powerful weapon and it would make her the most gifted and loved female athlete in the entire world(my opinion)! In 1992, she did a stint in the Peace Corps and at one point wanted to work with the Secret Service to be a "female James Bond" but it took too long. After realizing what a gift she had Chyna started to focas more on her body and start to enter fitness competitions. Chyna says Kathy has a body like hers and they would often work out together and compete in the competitions together. Chyna and sister Kathy are the best of friends. Chyna has often refered to her as her best friend in the world! Sadly Chyna and her parents could never work things out so she doesn't see much of them. Chyna actually didn't decide to be a wrestle until she saw a wrestling segment on t.v. Right then she decided that is what she wanted to do in life and make a career out of! When Chyna became serious about wrestling she went to see wrestling promoter Walter "Killer" Kowalski. Kowalsk's response was "You either do it or you don't!" So for a shor while she didn't. Joanie went back home trying to decied what to do next with her life but her curiousity got the best of her so a few weeks later she appeared at Killer's door and she signed up for classes! Along with three men Joanie was ready to put her body to work. But with the often nagging of the guys she would often get distracted. They would tell her that a woman had no place in wrestling and that she should give up now! but we all know Chyna,she wasn't about to give up now! After she left Killer Kowalski's school she wrestled for several promotions including "LadySport/Special Events Promotions" There she wrestled under the name of Joanie Lee. After doing all that Chyna appeaered on many talk shows and of course they all loved her and she started to love the attention more and more!! Chyna really wanted to make it big in the wrestling business and she knew wrestling for "women's" promotions wasn't going to get her anywhere. She says she would travel around to wherever the promotions were with her portfolio and get agents to look at it. According to her, she didn't care if they through it in the garbage when they left, as long as they looked at it. After being introduced to now boyfriend Paul Levesque aka Triple H Chyna wanted it more and more and Triple H knew how bad she wanted it! So he came up with the idea of using her as a "bodyguard" type person to walk him out to the ring. So he pitched the idea to the owner of the World Wrestling Federation Vince McMahon. Vince wasn't to thrilled of the idea of a muscler woman but he said they could try it out and see how the fans reacted. Chyna entered the WWF as a pisssed orebal without a cause who would constantly beat up on Marlena. She made her debut as a fan at an In Your House PPV in February 1997 and later named Triple H's body guard. This led HHH to a feud with Goldust. Seeing how the fans reacted to Chyna, Vince was very happy with his decision to allow her in. At first Chyna was happy being a just bodyguad but soon that would all change and Chyna would wnat to go into more action. She wrestling in the ring with the men! After kicking Vince McMahon's butt and throwing him over the top rope, she earned her way into the Royal Rumble at the number 30 spot! After competing in the Royal Rumble Chyna started to like the attention and decided to take a differnet turn in her career and this definitely changed her relationship with Triple H and the rest of the members of Dx. Chyna decided to turn on DX and join Vince McMahon's Corporation. With this happing it would be a long road of fights with Dx. At WrestleMania 99' Triple H was schduled to fight Kane and at that time Chyna was in alliance with Kane so when Chyna made her way out to the ring the fans automatically thought that Chyna was there to screw(fight) Triple yet again. But little did they know that Triple H and Chyna have been planning to get back together and Wrestlemania was the best place to come back together! At No Mercy of 99' Chyna opened a can of whope a$$ on Jeff Jarrett and showed him who was wearing the pants there. In one of Chyna best matches she took home the gold an became the first woman Intercontanetal Champion, in fact she was the first woman ever to hold a mans belt! The next night on Raw Chyna came out with a "mini me" Apparenly Chyna and Miss Kitty were in alliance. Now Chyna was in the big time now that she had someone to follow her arround for a change. |
