The music industry has many copies but very few originals. Alicia Keys has arrived and she certainly isn't copying anyone; she has a true musical talent that will almost certainly propel her to lasting success and recognition from her peers. Alicia's interpretation of modern R&B soul is the ideal showcase for her gifts and has already led to success around the globe.
Already described by some as "this generation's Roberta Flack", there is no doubt that Alicia's combination of songwriting prowess and incredible vocal power will propel her to the top. A classically trained pianist, Alicia is capable of delivering live performances brimming with genuine class while retaining a real hip-hop flavor. Alicia was born and raised in New York and cites her mother as a major influence on her development as a musician. Indeed, her mother gave her advice that the listening public should now be grateful for when she said "You can quit anything else but you can never give up on your piano lessons.". She also spent time perfecting her voice at the Performance Arts School in Manhattan where she majored in Choir. Alicia graduated high school with outstanding grades at age sixteen and briefly considered Columbia University before deciding that she had to focus on her musical career and give her outstanding talent a chance to flourish. Alicia first came to the attention of record labels in 1998 when several of the majors attempted to outbid each other for her signature. Alicia eventually signed for Arista, following in the footsteps of Prince, and began writing and recording her debut album (a process that she had started at age fourteen!). Alicia moved to J Records in 1999 and has now delivered her debut album "Songs in A Minor" which has already produced a worldwide smash hit with "Fallin'" and features collaborations with some of the greats of R&B soul including Isaac Hayes and Jermaine Dupri. Whatever the future holds for her, you can be sure that Alicia Keys is here to stay. |
